Dawn

Alone in the darkness;
There was light till moments ago;
As the sun set,
the dark crept in.

The lines on this paper,
I could see until recently,
now gone with the light,
they faded silently.

The writing she had scribbled;
The name she had etched;
Wiped clean by the blackness,
that lies before me outstretched.

And I wait for the sun now,
her moonlight won’t suffice;
For her light that does not burn me,
comes but at a price.

And with nothing left to give,
and nothing left to pawn,
I pass tonight in darkness
waiting here for dawn.
