Cacophony

Black birds of night,
whisper sleep into my calm,
while summer rays of sunshine,
come pouring in at dawn;

Sweet caws and chirps,
caress me awake,
while I hit the radio alarm snooze,
for making the same mistake;

Walking through my daily chores,
headphones in my ears,
metal music pouring through,
my mind a little clear ‘er;

Twilight brings the dullness,
traffic jams, car horns,
and impatient cries
of the stressed;

Back in my bed at last
I duck into my dreams,
no sound left to disturb me now,
I sleep peacefully in my screams.
